Young Carers

 

Young Carers

We recognise that some of our pupils act as Young Carers, children and young people who help look after a family member who is ill, disabled, has a mental health condition, or struggles with substance misuse.

Young Carers may be eligible for additional support through the Pupil Premium or other pastoral initiatives in school. We aim to ensure that their education and wellbeing are not negatively affected by their caring responsibilities.

Our support includes:

  • A designated Young Carers Lead who offers guidance and emotional support.
  • Regular check-ins and mentoring sessions.
  • Help accessing homework support, quiet spaces, and extracurricular opportunities.
  • Referrals to local Young Carers support services where appropriate.

All conversations are handled confidentially and with sensitivity.
